Ideal Kitchen Cabinet Colours for Small Kitchens

March 29, 2017

If you're living with a tiny kitchen and want to make it look bigger, rest assured that it is possible to create the illusion of space. It is actually also possible to create some smart storage solutions that can increase the overall functionality. That's a win-win situation!

Many people are unsure what to do in order to make their small kitchen areas look bigger and more inviting. However, there are a number of ways to use colour and contrast to do just that. Of course, the right lighting and layout will also help.

1. White on white

One of the subtle ways to create the illusion of space and make any area look bigger is through the usage of white cabinetry and paint. This doesn't meant to paint every surface the same shade though. Instead, find shades of white that complement each other. The subtle differences will appear to make the kitchen seem larger.

2. Colour variations

If going all white isn't pleasing to you than you can always use colour. If you've got a penchant for gray, use varying shades of it on the lower cabinets, upper cabinets, countertops and backsplash. Add in some more visual interest with a pop of contrasting colour. This keeps the room from feeling too boring.

3. Add glass

Another way to create interest and space is to utilise glass doors, particularly on some of the upper cabinets. Display some of your more lively plates and bowls in these cabinets. Make them part of the decor.

4. Open shelving

Who says you have to keep doors on all the cabinetry? Try utilising open shelving. Again, this is a good way to display some of your favorite pieces. It is also a good way to draw the eye up and open things up in your kitchen.

There are a number of tricks of the trade to help you increase the space in your kitchen area without actually knocking down walls. Contact a trusted kitchen designer. Use someone that will listen to your needs and help you to create the space that will suit your lifestyle but also your budget. A trusted kitchen designer can turn even the tiniest and outdated spaces into stunning spaces that are stylish and functional.
